Our Stud Partners

The UK has a rich heritage in Thoroughbred breeding, with stud farms playing a vital role in producing future champions. While large, well-established breeding operations often dominate the headlines, small, independent stud farms are the backbone of the industry, contributing to bloodline diversity, local economies, and the sustainability of British racing.

Supporting small UK-based stud farms is crucial in ensuring the continued success of the sport. These farms provide a personalized approach to breeding, often focusing on quality over quantity, careful mare selection, and hands-on care for each foal. They also foster innovation, offering breeders and owners greater flexibility and tailored services.

With rising costs and increasing competition from global breeding powerhouses, small stud farms face significant challenges. By promoting and supporting these businesses—whether through choosing UK-based stallions, investing in locally bred bloodstock, or advocating for industry policies that protect smaller breeders—we can help sustain the future of British breeding and racing.

Mildmay Stud Farm

The owner and director of Mildmay Farm & Stud, Bridget Drew, started her successful breeding and racing enterprise in early 2000s. For many years Bridget and her team have developed the stud into a successful breeding operation that is regularly producing high class horses both on the track and in the sales ring.

The stud is situated in rural Hampshire with over 100 acres of established chalk downland pasture that provides an ideal start in the life of the young racehorse, ensuring the key nutrients for optimum development and great strength of bone.

Mildmay stud offers a fantastic range of facilities, covering all Thoroughbred bloodstock requirements including foaling mares, visiting stallions, preparation for all major sales and racehorse rehabilitation. All overseen by a knowledgeable and dedicated team.

Overbury Stud

At the turn of the new millennium, the Holland Martin family leased Overbury Stud to Simon Sweeting, who founded Overbury Stallions Ltd – under his management, Overbury Stud has grown a reputation for standing stallions.

Overbury Stallions is committed to standing exciting, well-bred stallions who represent value for breeders keen to use young stallions who could be the next big thing. As many successful breeders know, this kind of stallion offers the possibility of huge rewards for a modest outlay – stallions like Cityscape, who sired no fewer than three first-crop Group winners.

Besides its stallion business, Overbury Stud offers top quality boarding and sales services and is developing a broodmare band with the aim of repeating this famous nursery’s earlier successes.
